Ştefan Odobleja (1902 - 1978) was a Romanian scientist, one of the precursors of cybernetics. His major work, Psychologie consonantiste, first published in 1938 and 1939, in Paris, had established many of the major themes of cybernetics regarding cybernetics and systems thinking ten years before the work of Norbert Wiener was published in 1948.
He died in ignorance in some kind of home arrest imposed by the communist regime because cybernetics was declared a science of capitalist nature by the Romanian government of the mid '70s(in spite of having embraced it in the previous two decades). The academic contacts were dropped and he was under severe surveillance. His house was disconnected from electricity to prevent him to continue his writings. Even paper was scarce in his home and he used to write his thoughts on the unprinted areas of the local propaganda newspapers.
As an appreciation for his entire work of mapping the unknown territory of the consonantist psychology, cybernetics and generalized cybernetics, Ştefan Odobleja was elected posthumously an honorary member of the Romanian Academy (1990).
In 1982 a group of scientists have established the "Cybernetics Academy "Ştefan Odobleja", a scientific forum registered in Lugano, Switzerland, financed by the Romanian billionaire Prof. Dr. Iosif Constantin Drăgan.

Salt Therapy for Respiratory Diseases

Salt Therapy for Respiratory Diseases
Constantin Pascu a realizat in anul 2000, in premiera mondiala, un aparat care purifica aerul in spatiile de locuit.
The benefits of salt therapy (Halotherapy and Speleotherapy) are well known in Europe. In fact, it is a treatment that has been practiced in the old salt mines of Eastern Europe since the early 19th century. Halotherapy uses dry aerosol micro particles of salt to treat respiratory diseases and replicates the conditions of speleotherapy. Salin Plus, developed by a Romanian inventor, Constantin Pascu, reproduces the speleotherapy micro environment in your home and brings new hope in the natural treatment of chronic respiratory diseases.
The device is an air salinizer using forced ionization of the indoor air by salt sublimation. It places tiny salt micro crystals and negative ions of salt into the indoor air which penetrates deep into the lungs and clears the respiratory system. Salin uses only natural middle Miocene salt from the Transylvanian Praid salt mine, untreated by processing technology.
Clinical studies have shown that the inhaled saline destroys bacteria, helps fluidize the mucus, absorbs water, and has antiinflammatory properties. It restores normal transport of mucous and unclogs blockages in the bronchi and bronchioles leading to rapid elimination of the residual tar and foreign allergens.
Edema of the nasal mucous membrane is diminished, leading to widening of the airway passages, improving sinus drainage and reducing snoring. Edema of the eustachian tube, which causes ear infection, is also diminished, leading to better drainage and better aeration behind the tympanic membrane.
Additionally, the salt therapy is beneficial in the treatment of: Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis; COPD; Allergic Rhinitis (Hay Fever); Cystic Fibrosis; Sinusitis; Ear Infections; Smoker’s Cough; Various acute or chronic respiratory diseases.
This product has also been shown to reduce snoring and activate better sleep due to better blood oxygenation from clearer airway passages. It also boosts the immunity of the whole respiratory system against infections, flu and allergies.
Historically, salt therapy has been found to humidify the bronchial secretions, reducing broncho-spasm and facilitating elimination of residual tar, phlegm and other allergens, and at the same time improves the quality of indoor air.
Salt therapy is a natural therapy that does not involve any risk and can be adapted to any living space; however; this is not a substitute for medical treatment and should only be used as an adjunct, helping to improve quality life, reducing antibiotics, steroid intake, and decreasing the frequency of asthma attacks.

Lucian Bute

Bute has a professional record of 25 wins (20 KOs), 0 losses and 0 draws. He is trained by Stéphan Larouche, who also trained former world champions Éric Lucas and Leonard Dorin.
Before challenging for the IBF title, Bute was forced to fight an eliminator against ultra-tough Sakio Bika. Lucian used his boxing skills to win a wide unanimous decision. Next up was IBF champion Alejandro Berrio. Bute was outboxing the tough Colombian when in round 11, he pinned Berrio in the corner and nearly ripped his head off with a succession of right hand bombs. The referee jumped in with Berrio unconscious and trapped against the turnbuckle. Lucian Bute was the new IBF Super Middleweight Champion!
On June 15, 2007, Bute faced super middleweight contender and former Olympian Sakio Bika at the Bell Centre in Montreal in an elimination bout for the IBF title. Bute beat Bika by unanimous decision (116-111, 118-109, 118-109) and, as a result, he got his shot at the IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro Berrio on October 19, 2007Bute beat Berrio via TKO in the 11th round. With this victory, Bute became the third Romanian professional boxing world champion after Leonard Doroftei and Mihai Leu.
On October 24, 2008, Bute defeated Mexico's Librado Andrade by unanimous decision but the end of the fight was marred with controversy.[1] While Bute dominated his opponent through most of the fight, he nearly lost the title when he was knocked down by Andrade with two seconds left in the 12th and final round. When the referee, Marlon B. Wright, reached the eight count, the bell sounding the end of the match rang. However, the referee, stopped the count temporarily, when he signaled Andrade to return to his corner[2].
Bute defeated three-time world title challenger Fulgencio Zúñiga on March 13, 2009. In round four, Bute knocked Zúñiga down with a left uppercut to the body. Zúñiga got up, but Bute continued the assault, eventually leading to a stoppage by the referee.[3]
On November 29, 2009, Lucian Bute scored a fourth-round KO over Librado Andrade at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Canada. Bute retained his IBF super middleweight title with the victory and is ready to unite the title.

Outstanding success for Romanian IT specialists at the European IT Excellence Awards 2010

Solutia eAgricultura dezvoltata si implementata de SIVECO Romania a castigat marele premiu in categoria pietei verticale fiind desemnat "Castigatorul Premiului European de Excelenta in IT 2010"
The eAgriculture solution developed and implemented by SIVECO Romania at the Payments and Interventions Agency for Agriculture (APIA) won the big prize in the Vertical Market category
Bucharest, 1st March 2010 - One of the most important IT projects develped in Romania over the past three years, the integrated solution develped by SIVECO Romania for APIA, received the title of "Winner of the European IT Excellence Award 2010".
The jury formed of indipendent industry experts of the famous European competition announced this year's winners during the Annual Awards Gala, held in London at the end of February.
"This award is a true (and very pleasant) surprise, as competition was extremely keen. This year competed 88 companies from 16 countries.
Within the same competition, the company SIVECO Romania received the Finalist title for the implementation of the Documents Management solution at STX RO Offshore Tulcea (former AKER Tulcea) and of the SIVECO Business Analyzer solution at the National Bank of Romania.
"The jury was impressed by the quality of the applications and by the manner in which these were prepared. With finalists from 16 countries, these awards reflect clearly and broadly the IT competences in the European area", said John Chapman, Editorial Manager IT Europa.
"We are very touched and honoured every time our efforts get international recognition. One knows how objective and serious the evaluation of the jury for the European IT Excellence Award competition is, which is the value of the competitors and of the projects they have presented. From hundreds of projects we are developing, both in Romania and in countries on four continents, the IT system in APIA is one of the most difficult ones, for which we have made huge efforts, but which were concluded with extraordinary results. This project's complexity lies not only in the management of huge numbers resulting in subsidies from EU and national funds granted to over 1 million farmers, but also in the responsibilities proprotionate to the deep social impact that such a project implies", said Irina Socol, President and General manager of SIVECO Romania.
In 2008, SIVECO Romania received the title of winner for the quality of implementation and for the impact of the SEI project (the IT-based Education System), another milestone achievement of the company, but also of the Romanian IT.

Nicu Vlad
Lessons from Romania
by Matt Foreman
Nicu Vlad is one of the greatest weightlifters of all time. The Romanian legend won the Olympic gold medal at the 1984 Los Angeles games when he was only twenty-one years old, and that was only the beginning of his amazing career. Vlad went on to win the silver medal at the 1988 Olympics, the bronze at the 1996 Olympics (when he was thirty-three), and three world championships in 1984, 1986, and 1990. However, the accomplishment that Vlad is probably most famous for is his all-time world record snatch of 200.5 kilos in the old 100 kilo bodyweight class. He is the heaviest lifter in history to snatch double bodyweight, and many weightlifting experts believe that Vlad is one of the most technically perfect weightlifters of all time. His snatch technique has been the learning model for thousands of young weightlifters over the last two decades.
The message, which I consider almost a biblical principle, is that the strength you possess in your heart will be the deciding element in your weightlifting career. Adversity is the name of the game in this sport, and the only factor that can propel an athlete to success is sheer force of will. Physical talent is not enough. There are armies of physically talented athletes out there. The ones like Nicu Vlad, who refuse to allow anything to defeat them, will be the last ones standing. This attitude drove Nicu forward to victory at the World Championship that same year, and then eventually to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where, at the age of thirty-three, he snatched 197.5 in the 108 class, winning the third Olympic medal of his illustrious career.

„Fiul meu mi-a zis: «Mama, am ajuns profesor datorita profesorilor tai.
S-a intimplat in mai 2009.
Apoi m-a imbratisat.

MARICICA PUICA
Romania in the past 20 years has compelled recognition in the world of athletics mainly tanks to its long-and middle distance female runners. We also did pretty well in jumps or throws, yet our top athletes in these events have never seen the fame of Gabriela Szabo or Violeta Beclea Szekely. Romanian women runners’ great names can be found as early as the 1950s, when Edith Treybal set a world record in the one-mile event. Then in the 1970s Natalia Andrei managed a series of world records in the one mile and 2,000 meter events. Yet it was not until 1984 when Romanian runners managed to set Olympic records. At the Los Angeles Olymics, Maricica PUICA, in the 3,000 and Doina Melinte, in the 800-meter event, respectively, entered the top-flight world of Olympic champions.
Maricica Puica was born in Iasi, on June 29, 1950. She competed for the Olimpia Bucharest sports club. Specialists said she ran over 90,000 kilometers in training sessions and competitions, that is more than the double of the Earth’s circumference. In her 20 years as a performance athlete, Maricica Puica had an impressive record of 25 gold medals, 21 silver and one bronze.
Maricica’s first great performance occurred when at the age of 17 she reaped the cross-country race Balkan title in Istanbul. In 1978 she became world cross-country race champion with Romania’s team, at that time including Natalia Andrei, Georgeta Gazibara, Antoaneta Iacob and Fita Lovin. Also in the cross-country race, in 1982 and 1984, respectively, Maricica Puica managed to reap the world title in the women’s individual competition.
In her career, Maricica Puica set 6, two European and 15 Balkan records.
In March 1984, Maricica Puica set the new cross-country race world record in New Jersey. In the summer of the same year, she walked home with two medals from the Los Angeles Olympic: one gold in the 3, 000 meters event, and one bonze, in the 1,500 event.
Also in Los Angeles Maricica Puica set two world records in the 3,00 meters event. She was the only runner with a world and an Olympic title reaped the same year.
Maricica Puica’s last great performance occurred in 1989 at the European Championships in the Hague, where she reaped gold in the 3,000 metes event, at the age of 39.
After retiring, Maricica Puica was appointed by Romanian officials National Ambassador for Sports, Tolerance and Fair Play with the Council of Europe.
In 2000 she was decorated with the “FAITHFUL SERVICE” National Order in the Rank of Knight
